Loyola Students, Bring Your Own Bag!
The BYOB campaign was awarded financial support in the fall of 2013. In 2014, the Student Environmental Alliance asked Loyola students: do you want Loyola to support the use of disposable plastic bags?
The students responded, and a ban on single use plastic bags was set in place. Now, students encourage each other to "BYOB" (Bring Your Own Bag). For those who don't bring a reusable bag with them, Loyola does allow students to pay extra for more sustainable options such as paper bags, reusable bags, and even compostable bags (these are quite valuable among those who participate in the Loyola's Compost Bucket Program). The ban has no doubt reduced plastic bag litter on campus. On top of this, Loyola can proudly say that they do not support the production of the easily replaced plastic bags. |
